That kind of day….

Just went to check on by washing machine and see how close it was to being finished.  I noticed I still had a basket of clothes setting in front of the washer and one in the dryer.  I only had 2 to start with.  Looked in the washer and sure enough, only water and detergent.  Hum…..  never did that before.  Now I have added clothes and reset it so we should get clean clothes.

We started out with doctor appointments but that went okay.  Had to wait at WalMart for them to fill prescriptions but that is normal also.    We had breakfast out and they cooked my eggs too hard but I can eat them almost anyway and didn’t want to wait while they recooked them.  It was still good and didn’t have to come home and cook.

Vern is out planting some pansies we purchased on the discount shelf at Lowes.  They still look good and will add color well into the winter.  What a beautiful day.  Temp. is only about 70 and plenty of sun.  I love the cooler days and nights of Autumn.  It’s almost here.  I think they said next Wednesday.

127 Yard Sale

First weekend of August and you have the longest yard sale in the country.  It is almost over for this year and I am very glad.  We live in a rural area and must travel Rt. 127 to go north or south..  Cannot even go out to eat, for the most part, unless we travel 127.  Since we are 25 miles from a town big enough to host a bigger store or restaurants that serves breakfast, we have done without this week.  I do understand that the sale is good for the economy of the retailers and town but not so much fun for the locals.

We decided to brave the traffic Friday since it was raining pretty hard.  After all, who would be out in the rain?  Traveling along at a good speed and the guy 2 cars ahead decided he saw something on the other side of the road.  I’m glad we have almost new tires and good brakes.  Don’t people know you cannot stop on a dime if the weather is bad?  We had allowed extra space between us because of the weather and that truck is lucky we did.  It was a SUV directly behind him and we have a full size van to his little pickup.  Anyway, there were lots of people everywhere holding umbrellas or in slicker or just light  clothing.  Had to be a lot of wet people.  ( It rains at least 1 day every year.)

If you want to see pictures of the event, check out fentresscourier.com and I am sure there will be several posted.

Maybe you want to take your vacation the first weekend in August and come visit.  It starts somewhere in Michigan and ends in Georgia or Alabama.   It originally started in Jamestown, TN and they have pictures also.  Others ask to join and it has just gotten longer and longer.  Rooms are booked 6-12 months before the event.

Would You Rather book tag

Thanks to The Book’s the Thing for tagging me.  This sound interesting so I will try to continue.

Would You Rather Book Tag

If you don’t follow her wonderful blog, be sure to go check it out. Some of these were tough, but here goes….

Would you rather only read trilogies or only read stand-alones?
I’d have to choose trilogies. I love discovering a series that’s already several books in so I can keep reading about a group of characters, and I’d miss that if I could only read stand-alones.  (This was her answer also and so well written that I left it)

Would you rather only read male or female authors?
Female – Since I like all romance novels from contemporary to regency and they are most often written my females.  I would miss the cozy mysteries written by males though.

Would you rather shop at Barnes and Noble or Amazon?
Barnes and Noble. I do love to 1-click ebooks on Amazon but nothing like wandering through a book store and enjoying cup of coffee at the same time.

Would you rather books were made into TV shows or movies?
I’d say neither, but if it’s well done, then make it a TV show since I almost never go to the movies.

Would you rather read only 5 pages per day or 5 books per week?
No question – 5 books per week! (being retired, I usually find that kind of free time…)

Would you rather be a professional author or reviewer?
An author – I think it would be exciting to see my name on the cover of a book.  I have only written a few pages but I keep saying, ‘some day’.

Would you rather be a librarian or a bookseller?
I’d want to own my own bookshop rather than sell in someone else’s, but if I could manage that, then bookseller would be fun.  (Again the answer was perfect so keep it)

Would you rather read only your favorite genre, or every other genre but your favourite?
Only my favorite – I’d miss everything else, but must have my romances. There are always mysteries or suspense with romance.

Would you rather only read ebooks or physical books?
I do read both, but if I had to choose one, I’d choose physical books. There is nothing like holding a book in your hands.  Besides, I like to go back and forth when reading and think I missed something.  That is harder on ebooks.

If you would like to answer these, consider yourself tagged!

Japanese Iris

100_1532

Japanese Iris  in our garden down by the pond.  There were several different shades of purple and blue.  The are a lots of yellow flag iris also.  They float around the pond and re-seed them self.  It is pretty but you can get too many.

New Books

I just finished ‘The Bedding Proposal’ by Tracy Anne Warren.  This is part of The Rakes of Cavendish Square series.

Lord Leo Byron wants to get acquainted with the window Lady Thalia Lennox.  He is only interested in making her his mistress.  After all, the rumors says she is notorious for her lovers.  Lord Leo soon learns you cannot believe rumors and falls for the real Lady Thalia.  Because she was divorced for lies her ex-husband and his friend told, she cannot remarry while he is alive.  She tries to get rid of Lord Leo to save him embarrassment but even that doesn’t work.  His family find  she is a good woman and try to help the couple but her unscrupulous ex continues to cause trouble.  Don’t want to give the rest away but it is well worth reading.  This was an ARC book.

Another ARC book that I have not finished, is ‘Covert Justice’ by Lynn Huggins Blackburn.  Undercover FBI agent Heidi Zimmerman has two goals – catch the criminals infiltrating Blake Harrison’s factory and keep Blake alive in the process. Falling for the single dad and his adorable daughter isn’t in the plan. But everything changes when an abduction leaves Heidi face-to-face with a killer, revealing the danger that’s been hiding in plain sight all along.  I think I read that this is her first book,  if that is true, she should have a bright future as an author.  This story griped me from the beginning.  Book is scheduled to be released June 1.  I read over half the first night and had to force myself to put it down.  The book is released as a Love Inspired Suspense.  I prefer this type of book but read many different books by many different authors.

Happy reading.

Things I Sometimes cannot remember

My husband keeps a little notebook in his shirt pocket to help when he has a senior moment.  Sometimes a word just escapes us and will come to you later.  He has so many flowers that he cannot always remember their names.  He will write down the ones that cause the most trouble and that helps him remember.  Occasionally, even a name will escape.  Haven’t you tried to think of a name and had it pop into your mind the next day or even later in the day?  Of course, my then it is too late.

This is another beautiful day in middle Tennessee.  We are hoping for rain as things are getting a bit dry.  Because we sit on a plateau, some of our rain falls apart before it gets to us.  The cliff cause that, according to meteorologist.

Today is a holiday but when you are retired, one day is much the same as any other.  We do want to honor all veterans and families that have lost loved ones giving their life for our freedom.  Vern is a vet but did not have to go overseas.  We have had several in the immediate family that fought.  May God keep our current soldier safe and give them wisdom as they continue to keep America and others free.

Spring Rain

We had a nice rain late yesterday so many plants will not need to be watered.  Vern only waters plants until they are established anyway.  Looks like some parts of the country are getting more rain than they want.  Always hate to hear about areas being flooded.  It is more than just the water to clean up.  Leaves a smell and things are never quit the same.  Try to enjoy the sunshine, if you are luck enough to have it, and stay dry.  Either way, way God give you peace and strength for your week.

Spring

The last couple of days have been beautiful but on the warm side.  Today was also a bit humid.

The humidity is more bothersome than the heat.  We’ve been trying to clean up from the ice storm

we had last month.  Burned tree limbs again today but did not get as much done as we wanted.

I was picking/cutting a few stalks of asparagus with my husbands favorite paring knife when I let it fly

into the fire.  Had thought I’d just add a few limbs.  Lucky for me I got it out before it caught fire.
